CAREER TECHNICAL EDUCATION (CTE)

What will you be prepared to do after graduation?

Each year, Chippewa Valley Schools offers Career Technical Education (CTE) programs at Chippewa Valley High School and Dakota High School. These programs are designed to prepare students for a broad range of employment and post secondary educational opportunities. Some programs are only taught at one high school but all CTE programs are available to students from both high schools.

A ten-year follow up study has found that the most successful high school graduates were those who took a solid college-prep program and a Career Technical Education program of study. CTE programs are staffed by teachers with related business and industry experiences that enhances the learning process with real-world relevance.

Program of Study

Each CTE course is part of a program of study designed to help students explore careers, prepare for future educational opportunities, participate in work based learning and provide opportunities to earn an industry recognized credential and/or college credit.  For these reasons, completing a program of study is strongly encouraged.

CTE courses generally have no prerequisites and the full program of study is completed in two or more semesters, depending on the program.  Any CTE program that offers courses before the senior year also offers advanced courses that can deepen a students’ exposure to and understanding of the content beyond the basic level of program of completion.  Internships are also available to seniors who have completed two semesters in a program, are taking related course work in the senior year and are recommended by the teacher.

With planning, students can complete all graduation requirements AND at least one CTE program of study.

  • Select the Program of Study Chart link below to see a summary of the courses required to complete a program of study as well as which programs offer advanced courses.

CTE is education that works! Did you know that CTE programs:

  • Fulfill the Visual, Performing, and Applied Art (VPAA) requirement for graduation?
  • Can fulfill the second credit of the World Language requirement if the CTE course is taken as a 2nd (or additional) VPAA credit?
  • Can be used to fulfill the "Senior Math Related Credit" if taken in the senior year?  Please consult the coursebook for CTE courses that qualify.
  • Apply math, science, social studies, and English concepts to situations and problems anchored in the world of work?
  • Actively teach and enhance vital employability skills?
  • Allow students who complete a program of study with a C or better the opportunity to earn college credit through a process called articulation?
  • Provide qualified seniors the opportunity to participate in Internships?
  • Are a great choice whether you want to prepare for an industry-based certification, continue your education after high school, or go directly into the workforce?
