Graduation Information

Further Information will be updated as it becomes available

Good afternoon Dakota Parents!  This is an exciting time of year to be a senior in high school and to be the parent of a senior!  We recognize that there is also some anxiety about the end of the year, and what you need to know and do to prepare for a successful end of your child’s high school career.  I would like to share some information with you about the end of the year, our upcoming parent meeting, and our commencement ceremony.  The attachment to this email has information about senior check out, graduation requirements, exams, and few things related to the commencement ceremony.  Because of our change in venue, and the fact that our site visit to Freedom Hill is not until later in the month of April, we are going to move the senior parent meeting to May 2nd.  Additional details to the ones shared in this messenger will be presented at that meeting.  We expect to have all details related to parking, handicapped seating, and seating on the lawn by the time of our meeting, which are the things we are still working through.  Here are some of the details that we do know:

-The Dakota HS commencement ceremony will take place at Freedom Hill Amphitheatre, in Sterling Heights, on Sunday, June 9th, at 10:00 am.

-Gates to enter the venue will open at 8:00 am that morning.

-Graduates will need to arrive and report to the staging area no later than 9:00 am.

-Each family will receive 4 tickets for the pavilion seating.

-Any additional tickets that we have will be distributed based on a lottery approach.

-Families will be able to submit requests for additional seats after the May 2nd parent meeting.

-Families will only be allowed to request up to four (4) additional tickets per family.

-All requests will be due to us by May 16, and we will draw the requests on the 17th.

-Families who want to invite/bring additional family members can utilize the lawn seating at Freedom Hill.

-Families cannot save seats for family members who will be arriving later.

-Families will need to make sure that there are no empty seats between families, so that we can utilize every seat in the pavilion.

-We ask all families to avoid bringing/using any noise making devices (i.e. airhorns, car-horns, etc).  Cheering and making loud celebrations for individual students can cause the next child’s name announcement to not be heard by their family, which is not fair to   them!

While I know there is a lot of discussion about our new graduation venue, please know that staying at our past venue was not an option for our high schools.  We are limited in the venues we can choose from because of the size of our high schools, and we prioritized our choices/options based on the feedback from the community in years’ past, including the desire to be closer to our school district boundary, the desire to have a venue that has stadium style seating, and finding a location that supports the sheer quantity of graduates/families that will be attending the event.  Our graduation ceremonies were held at this facility (Freedom Hill) for years prior to moving to the soccer arena for the past seven years.

We look forward to seeing you on May 2nd at the senior parent meeting!  Please feel free to reach out to me or our senior class advisors if you have any additional questions.   Our senior class advisors are Dr. Mcfarlen (amcfarlen@cvs.k12.mi.us) and Mrs. Tancredi (ttancredi@cvs.k12.mi.us).
