After a student makes the cut for the basketball team, there are additional steps that need to be completed.

1. Concussion Test- After making/joining the team, student-athletes need to complete their concussion test if they have not completed one yet while attending Algonquin Middle School. If a student took a concussion test last school year for a sport, they do not have to take it again. 7th grade students, and 8th grade students who have not taken a concussion test for a sport through Algonquin must complete a concussion test. Covid-19 Basketball Related Protocol

Chippewa Valley Schools and the athletic departments require students to stay home if they have exhibited any symptoms of being sick within the last 24 hours. Student athletes can return to practices/games after they have not had any symptoms of being sick for 24 hours. If anyone living in the same household as a student athlete is sick, the student athlete should not be attending practices/games until the person has no symptoms for 24 hours. If the student athlete or anyone living in their house has a pending Covid-19 test, they should not attend practice until a negative result is verified. It is vitally important that all students and parents adhere to this in order to have a successful season. If a student athlete is required by the district or county health department to quarantine, they should not attend any practices/games until their quaratine period has expired.

Girls basketball tryouts will be January 25th, 26th, and 27th after school from 3:00-4:30 in the gym. All girls interested in trying out need to provide a completed physical and Covid waiver to Mr. Trombley before tryouts begin. IMPORTANT UPDATE REGARDING STUDENT ATHLETES AND TESTING POSITIVE FOR COVID-19

Any student athlete that has tested positive for Covid-19 since getting their physical for sports must get another physical with a doctor before they can resume participation in their sport. Specifically, student athletes need a form of cardiac clearance from a doctor since testing positive for Covid-19 (which the MHSAA physical card has). It is also recommended that student athletes bring their positive test results with their new physical. Providing a positive test result can prevent a student athlete from having to quarantine following a confirmed close contact with someone else that tests positive for Covid-19. If a student athlete has provided documentation that their positive test result for Covid-19 has happened within the last 90 days, the Macomb County health department can exempt them from needing to quarantine following a close contact. Urgent cares and CVS minute clinics can take walk-in appointments for physicals today if you or your child needs to get a new physical completed
