You've heard of Thumbs Up Thursday and Fist Bump Friday. Today is Turkey Tuesday. One person gives a high five, the other makes a thumbs up sign and bumps the high five with the bottom of the fist - it's a turkey.

Monday, November 13

Saturday was Veterans Day, which is an annual holiday observed throughout the United States to honor all those, living and dead, who served with the U.S. armed forces. So today, I would like to recognize Veterans Day and all who have served.

The Science Olympiad team competed against 44 teams in the Hawk and Hornet tournament over the weekend. Notable placings were,

20th place in Forestry- Alicia Nava, 13th place in Write it Do it- Zachary Kraemer and Sophia Brodeur and most notable 2nd place out of 44 in Scrambler Vehicle- Zachary Kraemer and Nick Burch. Congrats to all who competed.

A reminder that as a part of our safety protocols - bulky coats, blankets, and non-clear backpacks must be stored in lockers during the school day. In addition, we have a dress code that calls for clothing to cover from armpit to armpit and down to 3-4 inches on the thigh. The start of a new marking period is a good time to be reminded of these standards. You are receiving this reminder today and one more tomorrow. Then Wednesday will be an enforcement day. On that day, teachers will be encouraged to pay special attention to coats, backpacks, and dress code and issue consequences for failing to meet those expectations.

Remember, today we will have an Avoid, Deny, Defend Lockdown drill after the conclusion of announcements. Clinton Township Police will be here to help with the drill. To begin the drill we will activate one of our blue pull stations. This will initiate an announcement to lockdown. At that point you will deny, which means lockdown in your classroom and barricade the door. Friday, November 3

Key Club’s Food Drive starts today, during 1st hour classes. The top 3 classes will win a prize.

There will be a SAAC meeting after school in the cafeteria today.

There will be a Writers' Club meeting after school today in room 110.

National Spanish Honor Society will hold their first meeting on Monday, November 6th and meet bi-weekly, at 2:30, in room 243. See Mr. Cavataio with questions.

Competitive Cheerleading try-outs begin on Monday, November 6th and 8th from 4:30 – 7:00pm in the aux gym. Please make sure you pick up the try-out packet in the Athletic office as well as a participation card. You will need both of these in order to try out.

Participation cards for all other winter sports may be picked up beginning Monday, November 6th. Remember, you must have a current physical on file in order to receive your card. If you played a Fall sport, you do not need to get a new physical but will still have to pick up a participation card as we re-check grades and athletic fines.

There will be an Ecology Club meeting after school on Thursday, November 9th after school in room 224.

There will be no school for students on Tuesday, November 7th.

Congratulations to our volleyball team, for a great season, while they lost the district final yesterday, they battled, and it concluded a great season in which they won a share of a second straight league title.

Good luck to our football team, which tonight faces Dakota at Big Reds Stadium for a district championship. Remember that tickets for district games must be purchased on www.GoFan.co . In addition, fans will not be allowed on the field after the game. A district trophy and medal presentation will take place.

Good luck to Jack DeWaele and Lilianna Peace who will be competing in the State Cross Country Meet tomorrow at Michigan International Speedway.

Remember that next Monday we will have an Avoid, Deny, Defend Lockdown drill after the conclusion of announcements. Clinton Township Police will be here to help with the drill. To begin the drill we will activate one of our blue pull stations. This will initiate an announcement to lockdown. At that point you will avoid or deny, which means evacuate or lockdown in your classroom. That decision is made based on the information that you have available to you at the time. The most likely response is to lockdown and to barricade the door. The drill will end when your classroom is unlocked and an announcement is made.

Attention ALL students 10th – 12th grade interested in attending Historically Black Colleges & Universities – HBCU’s. Counselors will be hosting a special guest to support students who would like more information regarding HBCU’s during the Thursday counselor drop-in session in the Media Center café today during 2nd, 3rd and 5th hours. Please bring your charged laptop, check in with your teacher and come with a pass.

Senior All Night Party committee is having a restaurant night tonight at Bubba's 33. Stop in and mention CVHS or show the attached flyer.

There will be an International Club meeting today after school in room 241.

There will be a preseason basketball meeting for parents and players of all levels at 7 pm tonight in room 226. Please enter through the B doors and go up the stairs. If you cannot make the meeting you need to reach out to Coach Smith ahead of time.
