Learning Management System – The Learning Management System provides the District with an e-learning solution. The solution provides the District with the capabilities to administer various online classes. Provided functions allow for scheduling, registration, class list management, reporting and grading capability. Administrators can add and customize classes from different sources into the solution. The online classes can be offered to students, faculty, staff, and community members. Class content is included in the areas of IT Certification, Professional Development, and PC Applications.
Computer Equipment – The computer equipment throughout the District is being replaced. For example, student desktops in the media centers of both high schools and various labs are being replaced. In addition, student desktops will be replaced within each middle school along with Shawnee Elementary. The teaching staff within both high schools, all middle schools, and Shawnee Elementary will receive new laptops.
Wireless Infrastructure (Phase II) – Phase two of the wireless infrastructure will provide wireless network access to the remaining buildings that were not included within Phase One. The wireless infrastructure will allow staff members and students to utilize laptop computers anytime, anywhere.
Security Cameras - The "surveillance systems" will provide new Seneca Middle School and Dakota High School’s Ninth Grade Center with security cameras on the perimeter of each building. Digital video recorders will be utilized to store the various information. In addition, the security cameras can be viewed over the network via a Web browser.
Audio/Video Equipment - The broadcast and video editing systems within the Community Relations Department are being replaced. Additional functionality will be achieved via the addition of the broadcast and video editing equipment.
Asset Management System - The “Altiris Management System” provides the technology support department with three additional capabilities. The client management suite will allow the technology support department to create “images” and software “packages.” Once these two items are created, the technology support department will be able to “push” them from a centrally located area. There will be no need visit the buildings. In addition, the asset management suite will provide for a new asset tagging solution. Computers and other technology items will be entered into the asset management suite.
August 2005:
Networked Electrical
Protection Upgrades
The District eliminated servers out of the buildings within the
District last summer. Remaining in place is a combination of managed
and unmanaged uninterruptible power supplies. Most of the UPS units
are at the end of their useful lives. The new networked electrical
protection devices will replace the unmanaged units with a method of
electrically protecting the equipment from lightning strikes and
power surges.
Destiny Resource
Management Solution
Destiny is a
next-generation solution for school districts. It combines
circulation, cataloging, and management in one library system.
Students will be able to access Destiny’s powerful features
through any District workstation with a Web browser. In addition,
students will be able to access Destiny from at home via the
Internet at the following website, http://library.cvs.k12.mi.us.
Desktops and Laptops
Additional desktops and
laptops have been purchased to deploy as needed.
LaserJet Printers
At this time, we are continuing to replace the remaining inkjet
printers that are located within the various elementary and middle
schools. As a District standard, LaserJet printers are replacing the
inkjets.
