On December 11, 2004, Chippewa
Valley School voters overwhelmingly approved a $168 million
capital improvement program that included the construction of
the new Seneca Middle School, the Little Turtle Early Childhood
Center, the new Dakota High School Ninth Grade Center, as well
as classroom additions and improvements at the middle school
level. This bond proposal has also allowed us to make major
building improvements like new roofs, paving and sidewalk
replacement, and updated security systems at some of our
schools. State-of-the-art technology and new buses have been
purchased. Part of the bond program included the future
planning and purchase of land for educational use. We are now
in the final phases of this comprehensive capital improvement
program and we are very pleased to report that all of our
projects are on time and within budget. If you would like more
information regarding bond improvements taking place within our
schools please contact the Community Relations Department at

review…
Macomb Township Property
Purchase: 22 Mile Road and Garfield Road -
The purchase of land for future
educational use is an important part of a growing school
district’s strategic plan. As one of the few school districts
still experiencing enrollment growth, Chippewa Valley needs to
continually assess and plan for our future facility needs. In
the past, our school district has been faced with a shortage of
available land space whenever the need for a new school or
academic facility arose. Part of the 2004 bond proposal
approved by our residents included the acquisition of land for
future educational use. The funding for this future land
purchase is specifically earmarked in our bond proposal and
approved by the state.
In keeping with that plan, we
have purchased 7 acres of land in Macomb Township which will now
allow the district the first right of refusal for an adjacent 40
acres of land at a later date. Local factors including
Michigan’s economic recovery will determine whether or not the
district will need to purchase the remaining land to accommodate
a specialized educational facility or a future school building
site. Chippewa Valley Schools has 15,500 students today but we
still have the capacity to grow significantly once our local
infrastructure is completely developed. In the meantime we
are exploring the feasibility of developing the current 7 acres
of land into a hands-on learning opportunity for our Career and
Technical Education Building Trades Program. Check back for
future updates on this important planning initiative!
