Chippewa Valley and Dakota High Schools shine in Fine Arts
competitions
Congratulations to the Chippewa Valley High School Band Wind
Ensemble for receiving a Division 1 rating for both Stage
Performance and Sight Reading at the State Band Festival at
Warren Woods Tower High School on Friday, April 25th. These
exceptional young musicians were the only group to receive this
highest rating all day.
Also, Laura McCarron, a student at Dakota High School, was
recently selected to sing as a soloist in the Michigan Youth
Arts Festival Solo and Ensemble Recital on May 9th in the Dalton
Recital Hall at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, MI. In
addition, an ensemble of 17 Chippewa Valley High School students
was selected to sing in the same recital.
Performing in the Michigan Youth Arts Festival (www.myaf.org)
is the highest honor available in the State of Michigan for
Soloists and Choral Ensembles. In order to be chosen, an
ensemble has to get Division I ratings at Michigan School Vocal
Music Association (MSVMA) District and State Solo & Festivals,
and must sight-read at the intermediate level at the state
festival. There are up to a total of thirty ensembles chosen as
finalists (six from each of the 5 State Solo and Ensemble
sites), and only twelve ensembles are chosen for the whole
state of Michigan out of those thirty. Here are the names of
the students from Chippewa Valley High School in the ensemble
that was selected:
