Chippewa
Valley Schools is very grateful to acknowledge Mr. Joseph LaFrance
and Enertron, LLC who donated over $52,000 to build dugouts on the
baseball and softball fields at Dakota High School.
Mr. LaFrance heard that we had a need to improve our fields
at Dakota and immediately came to the rescue donating the money and
the manpower to make the much-needed remodel.
These improvements were not part of our current bond program
and they were things that we couldn’t afford to buy out of our
general fund budget. So
the only way it could happen would be through fund-raising or a
generous donation like this. The
entire project cost about $52,000, which is the largest donation
ever contributed by an individual to any one of our schools.
He
gave his time and generosity to make this project a reality when
school districts must find ways of keeping fiscally sound while
still providing a wide range of academic, vocational and athletic
offerings to our students. And
these dugouts certainly enhance the athletic experience for our home
teams as well as the teams we host.
We
are very appreciative of Mr. LaFrance and Enertron, LLC for this
wonderful contribution to Dakota High School!

Special thanks to
our newest Community Partner Paramount Bank located in
Clinton Township. Paramount Bank recently made a donation of $800 to
help sponsor the Huron Elementary School end-of-the-year picnic for
students. At the picnic, students were treated to a complimentary
hot dog lunch, games, activities, and an outdoor inflatable station
including a moonwalk. Since 1998 Paramount Bank has been focused on
giving back to the community that it serves. Their philosophy of Neighbors
First, Bankers Second is evident in their relationship with the
Huron Elementary School Community. We are proud to partner together
with Paramount Bank.
For their very
generous donation of a 2000 Ford F-250 XLT Super Duty 4X4
pickup truck and snow plow to our Maintenance and
Operations Department.
Our Grounds
Department was in need of a new or slightly used pickup truck with
four-wheel drive and a snowplow. Michigan winters are harsh, and our dedicated grounds men
make certain that our 20 buildings are safe by clearing them of snow
and ice each morning before students and staff arrive.
Due to the age of
vehicles we currently have in our small fleet, we were in danger of
not being able to meet the demands of our growing district.
We are in the process of building one new elementary school
as well as a new middle school, two Freshman Centers and a
pre-school building. These
costs are covered by our bond issue, which was greatly supported by
our community. But not
the cost of a truck and plow. We
can purchase school buses, but the law does not allow the use of
bond funds for a maintenance vehicle.
This truck and
plow from CREST VOLVO will enable us to keep our focus on student
needs. With the state
of educational funding, we must reach out to our community to find
ways of keeping our district fiscally sound while still providing a
wide range of academic, vocational and athletic offerings to our
students. Our goal is
to keep cuts away from the classroom.
